I love the enthusiasm and optimism of Art Deco with its stylised animal, flower and fountain motifs and its vivid images inspired by the like of dancing or modern technology. Art Deco was the predominant style of the inter-war era of the 1920s and 1930s and it permeated all areas of art and design from exclusive objet dart to industrially designed objects. It was the last of the great styles to evolve in the West and with its geometric, stylised and abstract approach to design struck a cord with the critics and public alike. Unlike the souless mass market corporate design of today Art Deco was elegant, stylish and chic (if sometimes a little gaudy) and thats why I love this exuberant total style.

Sun, October 28, 2007 - 2:53 PMYes, it's also unfortunate that in North America, we skipped Art Noveau in a big way. At least you're not far from Napier, lucky you! Post a pic of your house! Show us your Deco! -
